July 2025 Presidents Updates

APA NE

Summer is in full swing with temperatures making it a challenge to be outside unless you are lounging poolside. Good thing planning our fall workshop takes place indoors where it's cooler. This year's one day workshop will be held here in Lincoln, with more information to come. Summer also comes with election season for the American Planning Association. In addition to the National slate of positions, it's also an election year for the Nebraska Chapter. All four elected positions were up for election this spring, with a full ballot to vote on this August. I encourage you to take the time to vote, participating in the selection of your leadership team here in Nebraska as well as at the National level including our Region 5 representative which includes chapter member and former chapter president Derek Miller running for this seat. Last, we are making strong progress on our Strategic Plan, updated last year. Nearly all of our 2024 action items are completed with a few in progress. We're also well underway for our 2025 action items. This includes work on two grant funded projects--one to overhaul our financial system to make it easier for an all-volunteer board to manage and another to develop a kit of youth engagement materials for chapter members to use in schools from elementary to high school, tailored towards Nebraska planning. Stay tuned for more details on each of these programs and I look forward to seeing you at the fall workshop!
